Meet Mrs. Lyons...

I grew up in Hollywood, Florida. I attended Nativity Catholic School K-8 grades and graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. At Florida Atlantic University, I received a Bachelor's degree in English.  I continued to attend FAU to earn my Secondary Education certification. I am also Reading and ESOL endorsed.

Following graduation in 2002, I accepted a high school teaching position with Broward County Public Schools. After eleven years of teaching high school English and Reading and coaching nationally competitive Speech and Debate, I decided that I wanted to challenge myself as a teacher and transition to middle school. I moved to Franklin Academy Cooper City, in March 2014, and taught seventh grade English Language Arts and sixth-eighth grades Journalism.

Coaching Speech and Debate is a passion of mine. I competed in high school and was a 1997 State Champion, with my twin sister, in Duo Interpretation. A few other favorite things of mine are my family and friends, fall and winter weather, coffee, FAU Owls, books, traveling, and my three cats, Anubis, Zeus, and Skunkape.

I come from a family of teachers! My husband, Brad, is a high school English teacher. My Dad is a middle school teacher and will be retiring this year after forty-two years of teaching Science. Also, my twin sister, Christina, is a high school English teacher and Speech and Debate coach.

I am so excited to be returning to Franklin Academy Cooper City for the 2014-2015 school year! Not only am I teaching seventh grade ELA and seventh grade Reading, but I am coaching FACC's first ever Speech and Debate Team.
